ER = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. Divide by reach instead of followers if you have it — it's the more honest number.

Questions, answered

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram in 2026?

It depends on your size. Median ER by followers is roughly 5% for nano (<10k), 3.5% for micro (10–100k), 2.5% for mid-tier (100–500k) and 1.5% for mega accounts. “Good” means beating the median for YOUR tier — a 2% ER is excellent at 1M followers and mediocre at 5k.

How do I calculate my engagement rate correctly?

Add up likes + comments + shares + saves on your last 10–20 posts, divide by the number of posts, then divide by your follower count and multiply by 100. If you have reach data, dividing by reach instead of followers is more accurate — only a fraction of followers ever see a post.

Why does engagement rate matter more than follower count for pricing?

Because brands buy outcomes. A 30k creator at 6% ER delivers more real attention than a 100k creator at 0.8% — and professional media buyers know it. A strong ER is quantifiable proof that justifies the top of your rate range; quote it explicitly in every negotiation.

My engagement rate dropped — should I worry before a brand deal?

Check three things first: posting frequency gaps, format shifts (Reels vs static distribute differently), and whether you're comparing against last quarter's outlier posts. Brands look at your last 10–20 posts, so a consistent recent average matters more than one viral spike or one dead week.

Good engagement attracts brand DMs. Then what? DM Grid catches every inbound deal the moment it lands — scored, sorted and drafted across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X.
